My First Passover

Despite the fact that I was invited to Passover at J's last year, I attended my first two Seders this year with him and his family. For those of you who haven't been to a Seder before, there are two main parts of the meal: 1. the story with some small bites of food that has significance in the story and 2. the full dinner.

The story is quite interesting to me because it's the part of the Bible carefully glossed over in my religious schooling. The Christians are much more interested in the New Testament because it involves Jesus and Jews are interested in the Old Testament because of it's lack of Jesus.

It was a great story and fun to listen to everyone reading around the table. Luckily, in addition to the Hebrew, the English was also in the book so I could understand all that was going on without having years of Hebrew schooling.

Now for the food. Matzah is awesome, particularly with horseradish. Mmmm. It's a great compliment to the haroset. Dinner was excellent and after 5 or so glasses of wine, a sugary dessert was just what I needed.

All in all, it was a fun weekend of excellent food and company. I'm really glad that I got to enjoy this tradition.
